HERE is a write up I did of my recent trip.

For those of you who don't know, I made a slight detour up to Crater Lake in Oregon instead of coming straight home after Moto GP. The trip was amazing and I got some awesome riding in.

The weather on the coast was nice. The weather inland was HOT. Really hot.

James, you should try to hook up with Steve. He's a rider after your own heart.

Yeah, I saw Steve's post on his ride to Oregon! Great stuff! I don't do the slab anymore though if I can help it so my travels take longer.

Yeah, but I'd be surprised if there's a backroad in California Steve hasn't ridden.

That is what I wanted to hear!

Hey Steve, how often do you do weekend blasts?

Not often enough! I do a road trip a couple of times per year. I love to do 400-600 mile days for several days and throw in a longer one at times, but only if I need to. Then I run the Baby Butt once per year. Did the 1,000 the first 3 years and the 1,500 last year.

I avoid long interstate runs as much as possible, but I will do a long stretch of roads like 395 when I have to if I want to make time.

Hell, I just drove to Vegas (with my wife) and did Wildcat, Old Julian, Montezuma Grade, Joshua Tree Nat Park, Amboy (parts of old Route 66), through Mojave Preserve, and then got on 15 by the state line, so just 40-50 miles to Vegas at that point. I've done that on the bike as well (Gerald - did that route to/from Vegas with Roger when we met up with you for DRA.)

What is the "Baby Butt"? I assume something like a watered down "Iron Butt".
That ride to Vegas is good when it is cooler. That is the only way I would ride to Vegas. I and another guy from the board (Gary) did that route in the spring (but we went through Idylwild instead of Julain). It was a good time.
I do enjoy 400 - 500 mile days. I find that as long as I stay on the twisty backroads I don't get that worn out.
Let me know if you ever want to make a journey up to Eureka on 1 - 101 - 1.

James, Good meeting you at Little Italy show.

No Julian on the way up. That would have been down Banner Grade to the desert and we took Montezuma Grade (so 79 from Santa Ysabel toward Warner Springs but turn on S2 to S22.)

On our return trip from Vegas we did the reverse to 29 Palms and then took 62 down to I-10, up 243 to Idyllwild (for Chinese food!), then head east at Mountain Center on 74 to 371 through Anza, down 79 through Warner Springs to Santa Ysabel, Old Julian, Wildcat. An alternate is to take 74 west down into Hemet and then R3 south over to 79 and then through Warner Springs, etc.

Read more about the Baby Butt at www.redhotriders.com I have done the 1,000 miles route 3 times and the 1,500 miles route once (took me 23 hours.) I plan to do the 1,500 again this year.

Good meeting you too Steve.

I will have to read more about this. It sounds like fun and I would definitely be up for it!

Hey steve, what is the range on your bike? I am between 180 - 193 (or so). I am going to sign up for one of these two.
I dig a challange! Are the routes planned for you or do you plan them yourself? It looks like the routes are planned for you.
