First, a little history. There is an e-mail list on Yahoo for Ducati ST (ST2, ST3, ST4, ST4s) owners. Amongst others, Gary Eagan, Iron Butt Rally
winner and long distance riding record holder, hangs out there. In 2003 he organized a gathering of Ducati ST riders in Torrey, UT. Torrey is
right outside Capital Reef National Park. The gathering was dubbed "Reefer Madness." About 30 riders showed up for the weekend.
We have had a gathering once per year since then.

This year's "Madness" was held at Wallowa Lake in Joseph, OR...named for Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce. I rode up with a fellow San Diegan,
James, meeting several others along our 1,560 miles route (done over 3 days.) We arrived Friday night as a group of 11 bikes and 13 people.
About 60 people made the event. One guy came from Virginia!

On Saturday, James and I rode over to Kennewick, WA for the day. I to visit some friends and he to visit some relatives. An interesting
coincidence.

On Sunday we took the tram to the top of Mt Howard (8,200 feet - the town and lake below are at about 4,200 feet.) Spectacular views of the
Wallowa Mountains!

On Monday I did a solo dash home covering 1,270 miles in 20hr 15 min.

Wallowa Lake panoramic (from 3 images) with the Wallowa Mountains in the background. These mountains are sometimes called the American
Alps.

Gerald, Bob P sends his regards.

This particular gathering is an annual event. The planning for the 2007 event will get serious after the start of the year.

The Eastern Madness (2006 was the first) will take place in early June 2007 in Marlinton, WV. I am hoping to make that.

I'll post in this forum when I know more about each event.

What did I say? I was just surprised to hear that you would want to take a ride that was longer than one day. I mean...you are just a "guy with a motorcycle".

I did a lot of long rides back when I had my ST4. The 749 ain't exactly a travelin' bike.
